You\u2019ll soon be seeing brand names on the right hand side of the \u2018dot\u2019 \u2013 drink.pepsi instead of pepsi.com\/drink, for example.<br \/>\nMarch 29th is the last day for companies to register their interest in owning a branded domain, with April 12th being the final deadline for full applications. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrum.com\/opinion\/2012\/03\/20\/dot-brand-new-opportunity-knocks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roland LaPlante predicts<\/a> that there will be at least 1,000 companies investing in these brand name suffixes, which have been coined \u2018dot Brands\u2019, and he suggests we\u2019ll start seeing them go live in 2013.<br \/>\n<strong>Key benefits of a dot Brand:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Enhanced online presence and brand awareness<br \/>\n\u2022 The stand-out addresses become easier for consumers to remember and are more easily located<br \/>\n\u2022 dot Brand addresses will enhance security and therefore trust<br \/>\n\u2022 Companies will have a greater level of control over their online space<br \/>\nIf the dot Brands take off in the way they are widely expected to, companies who don\u2019t have one may well find themselves at a long-term brand disadvantage as it\u2019s believed that the chance to purchase one won\u2019t arise again for a good few years.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a fantastic opportunity that\u2019s worth considering, and with the closing dates just around the corner and a 50-question long application to complete, it\u2019s best to commit now and get going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in July last year we wrote about the approval of a proposal to create new website domain suffixes, including brand names.
