They\u2019ve also attracted a certain level of ridicule, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y3rNQ2pTyAY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Somersby Cider\u2019s spoof advert<\/a>, launched earlier in 2013, offers our favourite example of Apple-baiting.<br \/>\nThe advert shows the countdown to the opening of a new Somersby store, which is decorated like an Apple store. A group of people mill around the store, and then burst in to sample the latest product. Instead of the new iPad, it\u2019s a pint of Somersby Cider.<br \/>\nWe\u2019ve picked out Somersby\u2019s advert because the copy is clever, sharply written, and intentionally cheesy. It\u2019s packed with Apple-related puns. A store worker picks up one apple (fruit), then another, saying \u2018single core, dual core\u2019. The tagline \u2018less apps, more apples\u2019, draws on the obvious link between the two companies, and lines such as \u2018Move towards the mouth and interface\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019ve downloaded\u2019 really tickled us.<br \/>\nThe final announcement: \u2018and it works perfectly in direct sunlight\u2019, pokes fun at the difficulty of reading a screen outdoors, while acknowledging the increased appeal of cider in the sunshine.<br \/>\nHaving enjoyed the advert\u2019s gentle humour and creative copy, we\u2019re looking forward to Somersby Cider\u2019s next offering.
