Should brands on Twitter be able to get their message across within the 140-character space of a single tweet?<br \/>\nAs copywriters, we\u2019re sure it must be possible. We could ultimately get our own approach down to around 60 characters and leave room for a hashtag:<br \/>\n\u201cEngaging, effective copywriting, content and strategy. #contentwithcontent\u201d<br \/>\nWe also checked out the Twitter bios of some big names to see how they condensed their descriptions and whether they\u2019ve left any room for improvement.<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/innocentdrinks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Innocent Drinks<\/a><\/strong> has a tone of voice that many brands aspire to achieve. Their bio is simply \u201cinnocent by nature\u201d, and uses wordplay to sum up their values in just 18 characters \u2013 including the spaces. We don\u2019t think we could make this much shorter, as there isn\u2019t even a full stop on the end. Well done, innocent.<br \/>\nThen there\u2019s supermarket chain <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tesco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesco<\/a><\/strong>, which uses 157 characters and manages to pack in both a hashtag and a joke: \u201cUnidentified hashtag in the bagging area. Follow us for UK news, competitions, customer care, food and lots more\u2026 We\u2019re waiting for your tweets #HappyToHelp!\u201d<br \/>\nIt\u2019s debatable as to whether the bio needs the \u2018follow us&#8230;\u2019 line, as Twitter users now expect more varied content from brands. Taking that bit out would leave only 85 characters. As Tesco says, every little helps.<br \/>\nClocking in at a slightly longer 160 characters, it\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LondonMidland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London Midland<\/a><\/strong>. The rail company has clearly had a go at cutting their message down \u2013 see the \u2018pls\u2019 instead of \u2018please\u2019: \u201cHere to help from 7am (8am weekends). We aim to reply to all tweets, but pls try to be polite if things have gone wrong \u2013 we\u2019re real people just trying to help!\u201d Even so, this bio still feels a bit wordy.<br \/>\nHow about this: \u201cReal people here to help from 7am (8am weekends). We try to reply to all tweets.\u201d These 80 characters still reassure users that the account\u2019s not being run by automated bots.<br \/>\nCan you sum up your brand in one tweet?
